From First Advisory to All Clear: Our Storm Watch Protocol

How we track the tropics, notify clients, and respond before and after a named storm threatens Southwest Florida.

Hurricane season in Southwest Florida means keeping one eye on the tropics from June through November, whether or not anything is currently headed our way. Most systems that get a name never come near Fort Myers, Cape Coral, or Punta Gorda — but we watch every one of them anyway, because the ones that do matter need a head start, not a scramble.

We’re Watching Long Before a Storm Has a Name

Once hurricane season opens, our team follows every developing system in the Atlantic and Gulf, and we share links to official tracking sources on our Facebook page so our followers can watch along with us. It’s a habit, not a reaction — by the time a storm is worth worrying about, we’ve usually already been tracking it for days.

When a Storm Is Predicted to Reach Our Area

If a named storm’s projected path could bring it near our service area, that’s the trigger. We notify every client we have a storm agreement with, confirm we’re activating their storm protocol, and let them know what to expect and when. No one is left wondering whether their home is being looked after — they hear it from us first.

Pre-Storm Visits: Closing Up the Homes We Watch

Deploy shutters or install storm panelsFor every client who’s asked us to handle it as part of their plan.
Secure or bring in patio furniture and yard decorAnything loose outside becomes a hazard once the wind picks up.
Do a final walk-through of the propertyConfirming doors, windows, and anything else that needs to be closed up is done before we leave.
Send a photo report of completed prepSo the owner can see exactly how their home was left before the storm arrives.

After the Storm Passes: Our Post-Storm Inspection

Once local authorities say it’s safe to be back on the roads, we go straight to every client property on our list.

Full interior & exterior visual inspectionRoof, windows, doors, and grounds checked for storm damage.
Check for water intrusionEspecially around the roofline, windows, and any shutters or panels.
Confirm power & A/C are back upA prolonged outage is exactly when humidity damage starts to set in.
Detailed photo report, sent right awayWith a phone call too, if anything needs the owner’s attention.

Kept in the Loop, Every Step of the Way

Between the pre-storm prep and the post-storm inspection, our clients aren’t left guessing. We follow up with every owner once their property has been checked, and we don’t consider a storm closed out until every client on our list has heard from us. This is the exact process we followed during Hurricane Ian — you can see the full timeline, plus how we prepare client homes year-round, on our Hurricane Preparation page.
